Craniosacral bodyworkwork for babies and children

"Touching and listening within oneself is already treatment and healing." The arrival of souls in the womb space of the family requires sensitive support. Craniosacral therapy for pregnant women, infants, and children enables the next generation to have a powerful start. The child is very active throughout the entire birth process, using arms and legs to push through the birth canal, while contractions assist. The massage of the entire body and the strong compression of the skull simultaneously provide a powerful activation of life forces. Birth is an enormous "ignition"! In the case of a cesarean section or complicated or rapid births, the baby often undergoes a re-birth process during the craniosacral session to integrate or soothe the aspects on a physical and mental level that are still calling for healing. Every infant experiences their own unique story before, during, and after birth. This is reflected in their varying moods and well-being, in their cells, tissues, fluid field, and nervous system. It manifests itself directly in breastfeeding, sleeping, and eating, in all further development, in the relationship with parents, and in the ability to experience emotional and physical contact. With empathy and presence, I offer a safe space in craniosacral therapy where the baby and its parents can tell their story and have new experiences. Working with infants and children focuses particularly on respecting boundaries and learning new motor and autonomic patterns. The earlier treatment can begin, the better. While birth holds a prominent place for infants, it often plays a significant role in older children in the form of separation anxiety, sleep disturbances, or physical complaints. By this time, however, children have also experienced much more: family and social experiences, vaccinations, accidents, and dietary habits. With older children, it's important to gently ask for permission, offering suggestions such as reading a book, having something to drink or eat, playing finger games with the mother, or offering toys. Therefore, treatments for young children often take place while sitting or on the floor. For infant and toddler treatments, my room transforms into a cozy play area. I invite parents to bring a cuddly blanket, teddy bear, and their own toys. Familiar smells and objects help the child feel more secure. Especially when working with children and the topics of birth and pregnancy, unresolved family issues and transferences can surface, demanding resolution. The question of resources within the family system is of great importance. My many years of experience as a systemic coach come into play here, and I am very grateful to have been introduced to Karen Spradley and to have completed my infant and child craniosacral training with her, as she works in precisely this way. Understanding systemic attachment and basic patterns helps me to better grasp and recognize certain constellations in my work. You can find further information under Birth Experience/Rebirth.

  • Special characteristics of children's organ systems As Karen Spradley's assistant, I have had the privilege of supporting her in her Children's Cranio-Sacral Therapy courses I and II. Karen Spradley is a certified instructor for basic training in Cranio-Sacral Therapy and head of training for children at the Biodynamic Academy. For over 25 years, she has worked in her own practice as a licensed psychotherapist and body psychotherapist with adults, children, and infants. Her systemic approach to symptoms and the familial, professional, and school context allows her to discover new connections and solutions, which she integrates into her body-oriented therapy. As a long-time teacher of craniosacral therapy, process facilitation, and infant and child treatment, her foundational teaching focuses on conveying structural work and empathetic process work within the biodynamic field.
